1. Company Intro

KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd, operating as KK Super Mart, is a Malaysian convenience store chain founded in 2001 by Datuk Seri Dr. Chai Kee Kan and headquartered in Menara KK, Kuala Lumpur. Beginning with its first outlet in Kuchai Lama, KK Supermart has grown into one of Malaysia’s leading convenience retail chains with over 1,000 outlets nationwide. KK Group operates an extensive network across industries and sectors, including food retail, F&B, and e-business, and has expanded beyond Malaysia into Nepal and India. The group’s business divisions run 24/7, serving Malaysians with daily essentials at affordable prices.

2. Challenge

As KK Group scaled its retail footprint aggressively across the country, the lack of a structured cloud infrastructure became a bottleneck for IT operations. Their production and development environments lacked a unified, scalable platform, making it difficult to support rapid outlet growth and digital initiatives reliably. The group needed a cloud foundation that could handle both compute-intensive workloads and database operations, while being cost-optimised for the long term without over-engineering the solution.

3. Solution

Cloocus deployed and configured a full Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environment on Microsoft Azure within KK Group’s own Azure subscription. The deployment covered multiple virtual machines sized to workload needs (B8ms for general compute and database, E8bs v5 for heavier memory-intensive workloads), a Virtual Network, managed disks, and all supporting resources , for both Production and Development environments hosted in Southeast Asia. Cloocus followed a structured delivery approach covering design, implementation, verification, and validation, with one week of post-deployment Azure support.

4. Benefit / Results

KK Group gained a reliable, scalable Azure cloud infrastructure purpose-built for their growing operations, without the overhead of managing on-premises hardware. By committing to 3-year Azure savings plans, the group optimised long-term infrastructure costs significantly. Separating production and development environments improves deployment discipline, reduces risk of incidents affecting live retail operations, and gives the IT team a safe sandbox for future digital initiatives. The foundation sets KK Group up to pursue further cloud-native capabilities as it continues its national and regional retail expansion.
