Cognitive Consulting Sdn Bhd is a Malaysia-based technology and consulting firm that leverages Microsoft cloud and AI services to support its production operations. 2. Challenge

Cognitive Consulting needed to run Azure Document Intelligence (Form Recognizer) capabilities locally for production use, rather than calling the cloud service directly. This required a connected on-premises deployment of Document Intelligence v3.0 on a Docker container — covering Docker Desktop setup on a local server, creation of production project files, and pulling and running the correct container images — while ensuring the containerised services were properly licensed against the Azure tenant and verified ready for production operation.

3. Solution

Cloocus deployed Azure Document Intelligence v3.0 on a local Docker container within Cognitive Consulting’s own environment, connected to their Microsoft Cloud tenant. The engagement (delivered by Cloud Engineer Magentira Kumar, completed 30 May 2024) covered: installing Docker Desktop v4.24.2 on the local server (8 vCore / 16GB RAM / 64GB virtual disk); creating the production project files (.env, docker-compose.yml, env.bat, nginx.conf) under D:\diprojectjanm; pulling the required images (Nginx, Layout 3.0, Custom Template 3.0, Form Recognizer Studio); and deploying four containers (Custom Template service, Layout service, Form Recognizer Studio, and a reverse proxy) verified up and running on localhost. The work was also tied to the customer’s Microsoft licensing — M365 Business Standard (2,216), Office 365 E3 (5), Power BI Pro (5), and Visio Plan 1 (1) — with an MS license renewal handled by engineer Magentira Kumar over the 5–10 July timeline.

4. Benefit / Results

Cognitive Consulting gained a fully functional, production-ready Document Intelligence v3.0 service running locally on Docker, enabling on-premises intelligent document processing (layout and custom template extraction) without sending data to the public cloud endpoint. All four containers were verified up and running on localhost, and the deployment was formally signed off as meeting the company’s operational standard and satisfaction level. The local container model gives Cognitive Consulting greater control over data residency and processing for its production workloads while still benefiting from Azure’s Document Intelligence capabilities.
