MobileOne Technology Sdn. Bhd. is a Malaysia-based AI-powered digital transformation company providing end-to-end Route-to-Market solutions to Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and FMCG companies across Malaysia and the ASEAN region. Their mobility solutions enhance route-to-market strategies by providing highly functional and customisable platforms for sales, distribution, and trade activities, integrated with business intelligence for valuable analytics. Serving a growing portfolio of multinational FMCG clients, MobileOne manages complex distributor networks that generate large volumes of daily and monthly operational data — demanding a data infrastructure that is fast, reliable, and built for scale

2. Challenge

Their analytics operations were built on QlikView, a legacy on-premises BI platform that had grown increasingly difficult to sustain. As their client network expanded across dozens of distributor sites, the platform struggled with slow data refresh cycles, degraded query performance at scale, and a rigid QVD file format that resisted integration with modern cloud tools. Analysts faced long wait times for reports with no capability for ad-hoc querying or near-real-time visibility. With 14 distinct data sources spanning sales, stock, and distributor domains , each carrying its own transformation logic, maintaining consistency, auditability, and data quality across reporting layers became a significant operational burden. The platform offered no support for automated pipeline monitoring, AI/ML workloads, or future scalability, putting MobileOne at risk of falling behind the data demands of its FMCG clients.

3. Solution

Cloocus partnered with MobileOne to architect and deliver a full QlikView-to-Databricks ETL migration on Microsoft Azure, implementing a Medallion Architecture (Bronze → Silver → Gold) governed by Unity Catalog. Raw distributor files are ingested from FTP via Azure Data Factory (ADF) into a Bronze Delta layer on ADLS Gen2, with full audit columns and schema enforcement. A Silver layer performs cleansing, type casting, deduplication, and business rule validation, all logic translated faithfully from the original QlikView scripts. A Gold layer produces BI-ready, aggregated outputs per distributor site, applying domain-specific join logic, historical union patterns, and amendment handling. The pipeline is metadata-driven, with a central source_registration table powering parameterised ADF pipelines and enabling independent scheduling per domain. Cloocus delivered reference implementations across key data sources and conducted a knowledge transfer session, equipping MobileOne’s engineers with a reusable pattern to extend independently across all remaining sources.

4. Benefit / Results

The migration to Databricks delivered a modern, scalable, and AI-ready data platform that replaced years of legacy constraint with a future-proof foundation. Automated pipeline runs replaced manual QVD refresh cycles, dramatically reducing data processing times and freeing analysts for higher-value work. Unity Catalog’s unified governance layer provided full data lineage, column-level auditability, and role-based access control across all domains. MobileOne’s engineers could onboard new data sources independently using Cloocus-established patterns, accelerating time-to-insight without ongoing external dependency. With Delta Lake as the storage backbone and Azure Databricks as the compute engine, the platform is natively positioned for AI and machine learning use cases, including predictive sales analytics, stock optimisation, and distributor performance modelling, setting MobileOne on a clear path toward intelligent, data-driven FMCG services for its clients.
